Lightning Photos

There is something fascinating about photographing lighting. When the subject is something random and may or may not even appear in the sky, the photographer can only be prepared and get lucky. You have to be in the right spot at the right time, with a camera pointed in the right direction and with the camera settings tuned just right in order to capture lightning. Luckily for me, I was able to walk away with a few photos of lightning, even if they aren't as spectacular as the one I took last year, they are photos of lightning.

A Sunday drive to SLC (time lapse)

Before a trip up to Salt Lake City, I tied my DSLR camera to the top of the car, then ran a USB cord from the camera down into the window and then connected it to a laptop. I used the software that came with the Canon Digital Rebel to take a photo every 5 seconds. With the photos that were taken I made the time lapse video below.

There are teachers, and then there are educators.

Kissing the mirror
"According to a news report, a certain private school in Victoria, BC recently was faced with a unique problem. A number of year 12 girls were beginning to use lipstick and would put it on in the bathroom. That was fine, but after they put on their lipstick they would press their lips to the mirror leaving dozens of little lip prints."
A great story about how a principal of a private school solved an unique problem. Read the outcome.

Readability

When it comes to reading articles on the web, I find myself just skimming rather than reading. Part of the reason is because my bright computer screen makes my eyes tired after a little while. The other reason is that there are often so many flashing ads beside the text that I can't concentrate on the text.
Well, today I stumbled upon a web site that eliminates all clutter in a web page, including the annoying advertisements, and puts the text in a clean and readable format. And it's free. Go to Readability to read more and see a video on how it works.

Fake Transwest Text Message

At 1:42 AM, I received a text message from "5000" that said,

"ApplicationCenter / This is an automated message from TRANSWEST C.U. Your ATM card has been suspended. To reactivate call urgent at 888-400-2916."

So first thing I did was turn on my computer and search to confirm that this was a scam and I found this blog entry: T-mobile Text Scam! Revealed on train!. Other people in Utah who also have T-Mobile as their provider also received this text message, so don't even call the number.

iPhone Nano Rumor

There have been a lot of rumors going around how Apple may release an iPhone Nano during Macworld this week. Some people say this rumor is false, others say it's going to happen. I'm not sure if it will be released, but I know there is an iPhone Nano. Last semester in my Photography class, a student had an iPhone Nano and was showing it to some other students. I had a close look at the device myself and it sure did look legit. The student, (whose name I don't recall) said his friend picked it up for him when he was in Japan. Apparently Apple was testing the device out in Japan to see how people responded to it. It has a removable battery, a place for a sim-card and has a stylus. Even on the back of the iPhone I saw that it said that it was assembled in China, but designed in Cupertino, California.

I just wanted to post this before the Apple keynote at Macworld and we'll see if I'm right or wrong.
